Thanks to everyone who joined the recent meeting to discuss short-term rentals (STRs) in our neighborhood. Here’s a quick recap of what we covered:

• City Updates on STR Ordinances:

  • The Development Services Department shared updates on proposed changes to STR regulations. These include stricter emergency contact requirements, faster response times, and potential penalties for violations.

  • There’s ongoing work to address safety concerns, like occupancy limits tied to building and safety codes.

• Law Enforcement Insights:

  • The Austin Police Department emphasized the importance of reporting STR-related incidents, as these reports help prioritize resources and enforcement.

  • They also acknowledged challenges in responding to incidents and are reviewing ways to improve coordination with other city departments.

• Neighborhood Concerns and Ideas:

  • We raised key concerns about the impact of STRs on our area, including noise, safety, and accountability for absentee owners.

  • Suggestions like requiring posted emergency contact information at STR properties were well-received by city representatives.

• What’s Next?
